Family Dentistry

Family dentistry means treating everyone in a household in the same place — examinations, cleanings and routine treatment across different ages and different needs.

On the day

What to expect.

  1. A conversation about each person's history and any current concerns.
  2. Examination of teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues.
  3. Cleaning and any routine treatment needed.
  4. A plan for when each person should next be seen.
Every mouth is different. This is the usual shape of the appointment — your dentist will tell you what applies to you before anything begins.

Questions

What people ask.

At what age should a child first see a dentist?

Guidance generally points to the first visit happening early — around the time the first teeth come through. Early visits are usually short and are as much about familiarity as treatment.

Can the whole family be seen on the same day?

Often, depending on the schedule. Ask when you call and the practice will tell you what can be arranged.

Do you see nervous patients?

Say so when you book. Knowing in advance changes the pace of the appointment and how much is explained as it goes.
